U.S. Army Specialist Alexis Hutchinson, a single mother, is being threatened with a military court-martial if she does not agree to deploy to Afghanistan, despite having been told she would be granted extra time to find someone to care for her 11-month-old son while she is overseas.

Not about humanity its about a United States Military soldier refusing to carry out duties she swore to.Single military mother was her choice: She caused that situation on her own and is now causing another. The wars in the East are stupid dum gay, however the "soldier"'s choice is not an option in the military. Shooting ones self in the toe ,purposefully, multiplied, then using it again against her duty is disgusting at very best. My dead Military Father would no doubt, vomit. I would have sent her to prison rather than the East, for a very long time. How do such PUNKS get into the military to begin with??? I named my loyal dog Alexis: Going to have to change it,in respect Her.( The dog)

Should the father of the child be thrown in jail for as long as the mother is deployed?

She signed up on her own.......She refuses? send Her to Kansas.Although the largest "crock"of $hit on this planet is the wars the USA government started and maintains in the middle east ,this "soldier" had no qualms cashing the checks during her domestic "service"

Don't be an ass. She isn't asking for a discharge or different orders, just a bit more time to deal with an unexpected family situation.

    How is it unexpected?
She had to know that she could be deployed at any time. Why didn't she make arrangements before hand that could be instituted within 2 or 3 days?

If she has family, why hasn't she already asked them to take care of her son as she can get as little as 24 hrs warning before she has to deploy. Have money in an account to pay for plane/train tickets for the person and her son.

I think there's more to this story than 24 hours notice to deploy.

Regardless, she signed up, she knew what was involved, if she doesnt like it, discharge her, and take away all her benefits.

Just because she has a child, and knowily the consequences, she deserves court martial and the lost of all government help.

I Dont feel sorry for her!

The article states that her mother runs a day care center with 14 kids...drop three of the money making kids and raise your grandchild! ...Get the father to cover the grandmothers financial losses by paying child support...don't be fooled by her self portrait (madonna and child) propaganda photo either.
